South Dakota Governor Signs Abortion Ban Into Law

On Monday, Governor Mike Rounds of South Dakota signed a bill making nearly all abortions illegal in the state. This is a great blow to overturning the 1973 Supreme Court decision, Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion.

The bill makes it unlawful for a doctor to perform abortion unless it is in an effort to save a woman's life. Any doctor who performs an illegal abortion faces up to five years in prison. ( Rather a light sentencing, no?)

Of course this move faces a lot of opposition from groups such as Planned Parenthood, which is planning on challenging the new law.

I can't wait to see how this all plays out in South Dakota and in other states as well.
